President of World Meteorological Organization


Dr. Al Mandous currently serves as the President of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and was elected to this prestigious position in June 2023.
Since assuming the role of President, Dr. Al Mandous has chaired numerous sessions of the WMO and has played a pivotal role in guiding and coordinating the organization's activities and its various working groups. He consistently represents the views and perspectives of the WMO to the WMO Congress and Executive Council, particularly concerning his presidential term and the challenges and priorities in the implementation of meteorological activities.
Dr. Al Mandous holds the position of Director General at the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) and has been the Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates to the WMO since 2008. Under his visionary leadership, NCM has undergone a substantial modernization of its infrastructure and has enhanced the UAE's national meteorological and seismological networks. Notably, he has played a pivotal role in the development of the Arabian Peninsula Integrated Radar Observing System and has led NCM's efforts in establishing The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science.In addition to his achievements, Dr. Al Mandous has been instrumental in the establishment of the National Integrated Observing System and the Seismic Data & Information Network Center in the UAE. His leadership has been pivotal in the development of the Integrated Radar Observing System at the sub-regional level, significantly contributing to disaster management, water security, and the International Civil Aviation Organization's Global Air Navigation Plan 2013-2028. Furthermore, he has been a driving force in unifying seismic engineering services and facilitating data exchange related to earthquake and seismic activities both at the regional and international levels.In July 2021, under Dr. Al Mandous's direct supervision, NCM launched the Science Dome, a cutting-edge 4D dome designed to visualize real-time and simulate weather data. This innovative facility has been instrumental in helping visitors understand the intricacies of meteorology, geophysics, and cloud seeding operations in an engaging and informative manner.Before assuming his current roles, Dr. Al Mandous held several leadership positions spanning nearly two decades at various top governmental bodies responsible for atmospheric and seismographic monitoring, as well as water resource management. These positions included roles at the Atmospheric Studies Center, Water Resources Studies Department, National Project of UNDP for Water Sources Studies, and the Precipitation Enhancement Program, among others.
